Learn more about how you can find out who a vehicle is registered to from the following article. Normally you would
expect to get this information from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). However due the very strict privacy
laws; this information is not to be given to anyone under any circumstance. The only exceptions to this are police
officers and law enforcement agents.
The police will be able to retrieve the information for you under certain conditions. If both you and the other
vehicle were involved in an accident then they can give you this information. If the vehicle was involved in a hit
and run accident and you are concerned party then they can give you this information. By concerned party I mean
that either; you were the victim of the hit and run or you are closely related to the victim. Under these
circumstances you can find out who a vehicle is registered to.
So you can try your luck and claim the other vehicle dented your car or something and you want to put a claim
for damages. Still though; under these conditions there is the burden of proof that you need to satisfy.
I have on occasion heard people refer to www.carfax.com as one place
where you can find out who a vehicle is registered to. I have not had the chance to try out the service myself but
it is worth checking out I guess. There are a few places that claim to have DMV records within their data bases and
so I suppose they do too.
You can try a search from there or go to www.abika.com and try
searching here as well. It has among other records police accident reports and yes, DMV records, so they say. You
can check out these two places and see whether or not you can find out who a vehicle is
registered to using them.
